I just hope it's not a crappy as the first one. I'm now waiting for a warranty replacement. Then, a few days later, it wouldn't even power on! The power light & the caps lock light up for about 5secs & the CPU fan starts then it goes dead again. It wasn't a problem with the button because if I did actually press it, the volume would decrease faster. The volume kept lowering itself a though the decrease volume button was being pressed.

Anyhow, a few days later another problem appeared. The funny thing is that the diagnostic didn't show any problem (!?). Release Fn at exactly same time as power button) & they came to the conclusion that it was a hardware issue. I contacted Dell Tech support & they suggested a few things including BIOS update & running a full diagnostic (with power off, hold down Fn key for 3sec and then press power button briefly. The touchpad worked for about a week & then, failed altogether. Things went from bad to worse after the promising "breakththrough" I had with the docking station.

On my old laptop, it was the other way around.Guys, just a quick update on my situation. On my brother's laptop, I could enable two-finger scrolling on Windows but not Ubuntu. Like gyropyge said, touchpads sometimes are just odd. The settings should take effect right away, but if not, try restarting the computer.

  • Then try steps 3-4 again with the new window that opens up.
  • If this doesn't work, try running dconf-editor as root:.
  • Make sure that under scroll-method, two-finger-scrolling is enabled.
  • Org-> gnome-> settings-daemon-> peripherals-> touchpad
  • Once the dconf-editor window is open, navigate through the 'tree' on the left side like this:.
  • This is just how the Terminal has been designed in Linux/Ubuntu.) (In Terminal, you have to paste with ctrl+SHIFT+v, not ctrl+v like usual. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Terminal, so I'll write this so that even if you're completely new, it should be easy. It's already enabled? That makes me think changing the setting in dconf-editor won't help either, but trying it won't hurt. But if you get to that point, let me know and I can tell you where to go inside dconf-editor. If that setting isn't listed, you could try installing dconf-editor and looking in there for the touchpad settings. Have you tried just going into system settings -> mouse to see if there's an option called "Enable two finger scrolling"? Sometimes I have to manually enable that setting after I install Ubuntu on a computer.
